The ASICS GEL-Lyte III ‘Sunflower’ BloomsRelease: 23 July 2021
The ASICS GEL-Lyte III continues its strong run in 2021 with new colourways such as this yellow, white and grey edition that dropped in Japan a couple of weeks ago. It’s now hit Stateside, right on time to see out the final days of summer. As it turns out, this colourway is appropriately called the ‘Sunflower’.
The GL3 has traditionally always been slanted towards hot-weather use, as dictated by its OG microfibre and nylon construction. However, this colourway sees those lightweight materials substituted for similarly airy textures of suede and mesh. This throwback to yesteryear’s runners is continued with the aforementioned colour-blocking, which keeps it straightforward with contrast overlays and Tiger Stripes atop a white mesh base, running into the model’s signature and, still occasionally divisive (at least literally), split tongue. Other details include bright yellow nylon lining, reflective squares on the lateral toe bumper, and plastic eyelet reinforcements.
Underfoot, the GL3’s signature GEL technology remains its major calling card. Here ASICS have decided to render the entire midsole as a white slab rather than its usual zoned sections. It’s finished with a two-tone grey rubber outsole for some complementary accenting.
The ASICS GEL-Lyte III in ‘Sunflower’ is available now from Sneaker Politics.
