Take A High-Fashion Hike with the adidas Y-3 TERREX SWIFT R3 GTX
High fashion has been flirting with hiking footwear for years. 's chunky Cloudburst, 's aptly-named Hiking Sneaker, 's Flashtrek and more all feature design elements culled from utilitarian hiking kicks. is no stranger to hike-inspired silhouettes either, but thanks to its rarified space under the wing of , it's able to take things a step further than most – and it's now teamed with the Trefoil's arm to craft the new Y-3 Terrex Swift R3 GTX.
Extended, acronym-filled name aside, this new boot is packed with some serious performance features. Its base silhouette, the Terrex Swift R3 GTX is a high-tech hiking boot with a full-foot waterproof liner, Promoderator midsole technology for support and stability and a toothy Continental rubber outsole for all-terrain grip.
What's unmistakably Y-3 about the collaboration are the colour schemes and the embellishments. There's a lot of neoprene overlays and bold rubber reinforcements to be seen across the top half, and that's not even mentioning the low-slung lacing system that races up from the toebox and comes to a rest around the collar. There are also two colourways available: a ninja-like black and a more vivid white, red and black.
More of these will likely see city streets than rural trails, but remember: hiking is whatever you make it. Look for the adidas Y-3 Terrex Swift R3 GTX to release via the Y-3 webstore on October 14.
