An explosive new collaboration is set to erupt from Shoe Palace and New Balance on the 2002R. Coming in two layered iterations, the colab represents the journey of lava through air and land. Whether on purpose or not, the concept goes hand-in-hand with Salehe Bembury’s earlier ‘Heat Be Hot’ pack on the 1906R, but with a more textured and tonal take.

The ‘Air’ colourway starts off with a dark navy mesh that is more open than the ‘Earth’ iteration to ‘play with the notion of air’. Coming on top is textured light blue overlays, before darker blue overlays sit on top of that. White comes through on the midsole and logo to add some contrast, but the star of the show is the red sock liner and lava-themed insole. The ‘Earth’ pair also features the same insole, but keeps the colour scheme closer to the ground, covered in a range of light and dark browns. It also keeps the same creamy white on the midsole and logo, and the texture on the middle overlays gives that gritty dirt feel. According to Shoe Palace, the tighter mesh on this pair provides a ‘more foundational feel’.

The Shoe Palace x New Balance 2002R Volcanic Rocks pack drops on April 26 exclusively via Shoe Palace. There’s been no word yet on a wider release through New Balance, so stay locked to SF for updates.
