Australia's Sam Kerr Laces Her Legacy with Debut Nike Signature
Boom! Nike has revealed Sam Kerr’s first Mercurial Superfly, a boot designed as much for storytelling as for performance. The release celebrates the Chelsea forward's 11-year journey while embedding her signature identity into one of the game’s most iconic silhouettes.
The design pulls straight from home turf. A light, sand-inspired base – nodding to Australia’s beaches – sets the foundation, with bold hits of teal, pink and orange reflecting Perth’s ocean, sunsets and rugged coastline.
Across the upper, the 31-year-old’s mantra is inked in a tattoo-style script, along with nods to her attacking style and Perth roots. A bold stripe down the toe pays homage to Cathy Freeman, the Aussie sprinter who lit up Sydney's 2000 Olympics in a gold-winning Swoosh bodysuit, while Roman numerals ‘XX’ hint at Kerr's jersey number and key moments along the way.
Extending the personal narrative from the upper, the boot celebrates milestone moments across Kerr’s career – from her 2009 Matildas debut to her 2017 Golden Boot and 2020 Chelsea campaign. The sock liner keeps the inspiration going, with 'Be who I am' on one foot and 'Be who you are' on the other, encouraging the next generation to embrace their identities.
Alongside the Mercurial Superfly, Nike have reworked the Field General as Kerr’s off-pitch signature. Echoing the same colour palette and design language, the silhouette brings in personal details on the upper and tongue, while Kerr’s autograph is stamped onto the ankle.
Get a closer colab in the shots above. The Sam Kerr x Nike Mercurial Superfly lands in Australia on August 28, with a global release following on September 2 at Nike and select retailers.
