Oh, you thought the Vomero 18 was the farthest peak Nike could take cushioning? We did too, until they launched the Vomero Plus and Premium!
These latest two additions to the burgeoning Vomero franchise are crafted with the goal of giving athletes the cushiest ride possible. Both also boast increased responsiveness and the ability to run longer during everyday training.
‘The Vomero Plus and Vomero Premium aren't simply two new shoes within our maximum cushioning line,’ says Deepa Ramprasad, senior director of Nike Running footwear. ‘They are created from deep insights and testing, offering distinct benefits that serve as powerful catalysts to help you get out the door feeling confident and cushioned, no matter where you are in your running journey.’
The Vomero Premium sits pretty at the top of Nike’s max cushioning range, and pulls learnings from Beaverton’s supershoes. The construction draws inspiration from the anti-gravity treadmills that elite athletes use to increasing mileage and speed up recovery time when pushing their bodies to the limit.
The shoe is currently serving a particularly purpose for Kenyan Olympian and multiple world-record holder Faith Kipyegon. ‘The Vomero Premium is a key part of my training journey to break the 4-minute mile,’ she says. ‘It's so soft, cushioned and comfortable, and it helps me train harder with less impact to allow me to recover faster and stay focused on my goal.’
For Nike’s Vomero Plus, the build was informed by the training needs of elite runners, and hosts an ultra-cushioned sensation that doesn’t compromise on responsiveness. The midsole is constructed with full-length ZoomX foam, and integrates learnings from Nike’s Invincible 3 silhouette.
‘Psychologically, the Vomero Plus helps motivate me to get out the door and keeps me feeling smooth for my everyday runs,’ says Conner Mantz, a Nike athlete who won the 2024 US Olympic Marathon Trials. ‘Physically, the maximum cushioning saves the pounding of my legs hitting the ground, especially when I’m running on the road. The Vomero Plus is the perfect amount of cushioning for me, and I feel energy return in just the right way.’
The Vomero Plus and Premium round out the Maximum Cushioning category in Nike Running’s range. You can expect the Plus to land on August 7 and the Premium to arrive on October 16 via select stockists and Team Swoosh’s channels.
