At the time of writing, there’s been no female runner that has broken the holy grail four-minute mile. That could all change after June 26, when Kenyan running prodigy Faith Kipyegon will make her attempt to crush that target in partnership with Nike.

‘I’m a three-time Olympic champion, I’ve achieved World Championship titles... I thought, "What else? Why not dream outside the box?"' Kipyegon said back in April, when announcing her endeavour. ‘And I told myself, “If you believe in yourself, and your team believes in you, you can do it.”’

The initiative is aptly dubbed Breaking4, and is all set to attract the kind of fanfare we saw at marathon-runner Eluid Kipchoge’s Breaking2 event in 2017. Nike are kicking off festivities tomorrow at the Stade Chartléy in Paris, and celebrating with a stack of specialised products that both honour Kipyegon’s achievements and allow everyone to experience peak performance.

‘Faith is a once-in-a-generation talent, and her audacious goal is exactly what Nike stands for,’ said Elliott Hill, Nike’s president and CEO. ‘Breaking4 is the kind of bold dream we will do everything in our power to make real – helping both elite and everyday athletes to believe anything is possible.’

When it comes to choice tech, Nike’s ‘Faith Kipyegon’ collection is stacked. The entire Pegasus franchise, known for its responsive cushioning system, is out in full force. First up is the Pegasus 41, the icon in the stable, hosting a ReactX foam midsole and dual Air Zoom units. The mid-tier Pegasus Plus flies in hosting ZoomX foam and a seamless Flyknit upper. Finally, the top-tier Pegasus Premium steals the show, boasting a full-length Air Zoom unit, ReactX Foam and ultra-lightweight upper.

On top of their everyday distance runners, Nike have come through with the Kipyegon-themed Victory 2 – the brand’s race-day ready track-and-field distance spikes. Packed with an abundance of tech, the midsole is equipped with a carbon fibre Flyplate that’s bolstered with an Air Zoom unit and ZoomX foam. The upper is comprised of Atomknit and features containment cables which lock in your feet.

Alongside the piles of apparel, the ‘Faith Kipyegon’ collection wouldn’t be complete without the Alphafly 3 Nike’s flagship supershoe. Finely tuned and engineered for marathon races, the 174-gram shoe comes ready for anything with a double dose of Air Zoom and a midsole which carries a full-length carbon fibre plate with heel-to-toe ZoomX foam.

‘This Nike collection represents the parts of my life that I bring to every run: my Kenyan heritage, dedication to my daughter, and commitment to pushing boundaries in life and sport,’ said Kipyegon. ‘The entire collection is beautiful and built for performance, and I hope each piece inspires athletes, especially women, to dream big, then put in the hard work to turn their dreams into reality.’
