Update November 14, 2022: Following the initial reveal of the Mowalola x New Balance 9060, they have now finally released! Both colourways are available to buy on the Mowalola webstore, with the yellow-accented pair being an online exclusive to the brand. A wider release is locked in for the New Balance webstore on November 18.

Rising London-based fashion brand Mowalola stole the show at Paris Fashion Week with their 'Burglarwear' SS23 runway, and among all the striking leather garments, cut-out details and rich tones, sneaker lovers were able to pilfer a glimpse at the brand's first-ever colab with New Balance: a duo of takes on the rising 9060.

The 9060 hasn't even been on the market for a quarter of a year yet (or seen any in-line drops), but Mowalola is the second collaborative partner to tackle it after Joe Freshgoods introduced a duo of colourways in his 'Inside Voices' collection. While Freshgoods opted for his signature big, bold and boisterous colour schemes, Mowala took a more measured approach with their pairs, dressing the boldly-shaped sneaker in black and equipping it with either green or purple accents.

Each pair does have a touch of neon flair though, thanks to a teeny-tiny hit of either pink (the first pair) or yellow (the second pair) on the forefoot. Other details include bunched laces and translucent midfoot logos. It's not the exact same shape, but the chunky midsole, heavily-layered upper and thick mesh/suede construction do call to mind some images of Kanye West and adidas' long-running Yeezy 500!

If you're wondering where the inspiration for the 9060 came from, it melds the key details of the 990 series with design cues taken from New Balance's finest early-2000s running shoes like the 860. Of course, the exaggerated dimensions of the midsole are a totally new twist!
