Retros We Want For 2024

Air Jordan 7 'Olympic'
Via GOAT

2023 was a huge year for sneaker anniversaries and retros. Brands dug deep into the vault to bring back a slew of sneakers long thought to be unattainable grails, as well as heroing the sneakers celebrating milestone anniversaries. As we draw close to the end of the year, we’re looking ahead to 2024 and the sneakers we want to make a comeback. Check out the list below.

Air Jordan 7 ‘Olympic’

The Summer Olympics are in Paris for 2024 and looks like Nike and Jordan Brand are bringing back a few sneakers from past Olympics in the Air More Uptempo and Air Jordan 6. One that hasn’t returned since 2012 is the Air Jordan 7 ‘Olympic’. Donned by MJ during the ‘92 Summer Games in Barcelona with the Dream Team, the hues of the Stars and Stripes are at the forefront with metallic silver trim throughout. It’s been too long since we've seen this one, and it’s the perfect time to bring the Olympic 7s back into the rotation.

adidas Rod Laver

While adidas continue to churn out Sambas and Gazelles, another adidas classic has been hiding in plain sight. There have been a few one-off colabs the past few years with the likes of Kith and Noah, but the adidas Rod Laver hasn’t dropped in the proper OG colourway in a minute. The fatigue of Sambas and Gazelles is already here, so it’s only right that the 3 Stripes bring back the classic tennis shoe for a new generation.

Nike Zoom Citizen

With the current mesh runner craze, Nike have an extensive archive they can draw from, and the Nike Zoom Citizen should be at the top of the list. A part of Nike’s Alpha Project line, the Zoom Citizen was at the forefront of performance running in 1999. Almost 25 years later, they still hold up today with visible Zoom cushioning in the forefoot and heel. Built with a mesh build and suede touches, the Zoom Citizen’s colour blocking would bring interesting and modern takes to the sneaker in 2024.

Reebok DMX Run 10

Continuing the mesh runner theme, Reebok have a funky and interesting past, specifically when they were pushing boundaries in the late 90s and early 00s. Reebok debuted the DMX Run in 1997 and it uses DMX cushioning, an air transfer system between ten strategically placed pods in the forefoot and heel with tubes flowing air to the right places when stepping. Extremely comfortable and unique in its build and colour blocking, it would be exciting to see fresh takes on the silhouette in 2024.

Nike Air Max2

The Swoosh have brought back a few Air Max2 cushioned sneakers through the years in the Air Max2 Light and CB 94, but we've been clamouring for a retro for the Air Max2 for a while at this point. As the sneaker is celebrating its 30th anniversary, it's the perfect time to bring it back for the first time.

Nike Total Foamposite Max

While Nike Foamposite Ones have been dropping fairly consistently in 2023, the beefier cousin in the Total Foamposite Max hasn’t seen a return since 2012. Originally dropping in 1999, the Swoosh used Tim Duncan as the sneaker's frontman. 'Silver Posite' makes up the upper with an iridescent oval on the ankle, while full-length Air Max brings impact protection.

With the sneaker celebrating its 25th anniversary and Nike bringing back other Posite models such as the Clogposite in 2024, we think the Total Foamposite Max should also makes a return.

PUMA Disc Blaze

The PUMA Disc Blaze debuted in 1993, with its signature Disc Closure System that removed the laces for a BOA-like lace closure. Brash and vibrant colourways were no strangers to the Disc Blaze, with brands like BAPE, Kith, and atmos getting in on the fun, bringing new prints and materials to the 90s runner. Last returning in 2017, the Disc Blaze would be welcomed back with open arms by the OGs.

Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4

Ask any hooper from the aughts what their favourite basketball sneaker of all time is and you’ll probably get the Nike Air Zoom Huarache 2K4 as an answer. Debuted by Kobe Bryant and other Nike athletes at NBA All-Star weekend in 2004, the sneaker was a then-modern interpretation of the original Air Flight Huarache, the perfect blend of modern technology with tried and true raw materials. The DNA of the original Tinker Hatfield-designed sneaker is present throughout, with a neoprene sockliner oval ankle cutout paying homage to the OG.

As Kobe models continue on the Protro route with LeBron and KD sneakers also getting retroed, it’d be a warm welcome for the Huarache 2K4 to return for its 20th anniversary with some updated modern tech.
