The FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 has kicked off, and there’s already been plenty of action on the pitch. To celebrate the 22nd FIFA World Cup, we looked back at some of Nike’s most iconic football commercials ever made. Team Swoosh bring big budgets and wild ideas to their advertisement executions, so there are a few gems.

From the 2022 ‘Footballverse’ to 1998’s ‘Brazil at the Airport’, scroll on to watch the greatest Nike football commercials of all time.

The Footballverse (2022)

For Team Swoosh’s latest Nike Football commercial, they highlighted their new multiverse platform dubbed the ‘Footballverse’. It features scientists in a top-secret Swiss lab creating a multiverse, summoning the greatest football players of all time to face off.

Write the Future (2010)

In 2010, Nike Football’s ‘Write the Future’ campaign kicked off the World Cup hosted in South Africa. It focussed on the idea of being free to shape your own future and featured players like Wayne Rooney, Ronaldinho and Cristiano Ronaldo!

Brazil at the Airport (1998)

For the French World Cup in 1998, Nike created a unique ad campaign featuring the Brazilian football team playing in the airport. It even had a cameo from footballer-turned-actor Eric Cantona!

Take It to the Next Level (2009)

Directed by British filmmaker Guy Ritchie, Nike’s ‘Take It to the Next Level’ campaign was legendary. It follows a fictional up-and-coming footballer who gets scouted to play for Arsenal, all from a first-person POV!

Portugal vs Brazil (2004)

Nike’s 2004 ‘Portugal vs Brazil’ commercial sees the two countries preparing to face off on the pitch. It doesn’t go to plan, and both teams spread throughout the stadium and compete for the ball.

The Cage (2002)

‘The Cage’ commercial campaign kicked off the 2002 World Cup and had an alleged marketing budget of $100 million! It featured a fictitious underground tournament involving eight teams with multiple top-tier players.

Home Game (2004)

Kicking off in 2004, the ‘Home Game’ campaign saw then-Arsenal captain Thierry Henry face off against a slew of other players in his house!
