What do former POTUS Barack Obama and tech saviour Elon Musk have in common? Well, apart from beefing with Trump, they’ve both been singled out by The Weeknd as preferred poster boys for his new PUMAs.
The Starboy’s signature model, the Parallel, toys with the boundary between sneakers and formal footwear. The shoe’s pared-back design and high-reaching profile are reminiscent of something you'd see in a GQ spread, but its distinctive midsole and sweeping Formstripe are unapologetically street-inspired.
Following an announcement that the shoes will be out this month, The Weeknd shed a little more light on the sneaker. Speaking with Footwear News, the artist revealed he wants the shoes to leave their mark on pop culture. ‘I want to walk down the street and see kids wearing it and women wearing it. I want to see the pope wearing it. I want to see Obama wearing it. I want to see Elon Musk wearing it.’
Lofty goals, sure, but you don’t get to where The Weeknd is without shooting for the stars. Later in the conversation he let on that the line has more to give: ‘We’re already evolving in the next phase of our collaboration, so I’m gonna keep that a secret.’
