Designed for speed and agility, the boot comes in a bright orange. Various Virgil touches are scattered throughout, including an appropriate ‘FAST AF’ quote on the soleplate. Off-White for Nike branding finds its way to the boot’s medial side.
‘For this Mercurial, I was interested in bridging the gap between foot and eye coordination,’ says Abloh, who played centre-back in high school. ‘All the dots on the boot represent an optimal place to strike the ball.’
The concept is twofold: first, to help the wearer recognise where he or she should strike the ball; second, to present a powerful message to the opposition.
The Virgil Abloh x Nike Mercurial Vapor 360 will be worn by France and Paris Saint Germain star Kylian Mbappé for the first time on March 31. The release will be a quickstrike, with limited pairs dropping the same day at Nike.com.
