For Met Gala inspiration, Virgil Abloh looked to Michael Jordan’s playoffs sneaker rotation. Via Instagram, the designer told followers: ‘When I was a kid, Jordan showed up to the playoffs with a new colourway every trip.' The caption accompanied a video of Virgil's unreleased ‘UNC’ Off-White Air Jordan 1.
Later, he returned to IG to flex his Met Gala ‘fit via stories, revealing a pair of Jays he’d ‘customised’ to say ‘for red carpet only'.
Perhaps cooler than the Met specials is the Louis Vuitton pencil case Abloh packed with pens and carried around the event like a high-fashion graffiti kid. Hopefully he left a few 'artworks' in the Museum of Modern Art bathrooms.
