Up Close With Nike SB's Lewis Marnell Tribute
On 18 January 2013, Lewis Marnell passed away due to complications with diabetes. The loss of the professional skateboarder and all round good guy sent shockwaves of disbelief and sadness through the skate world and beyond, to the huge global community of people who counted Lewis as a friend.
As a tribute to Lewis, as well as to raise funds for diabetes research, his long-time sponsor have created a special edition . The silhouette was a favourite of the pro skater, while the colourway and materials are a perfect reflection of Jah Lew’s style.
Upon closer inspection, the shoes are peppered with details that reflect elements of who Lewis was to those who knew him and the wider scene. The heel sports his logo – stylised Lion of Judah – while a second set of laces sports a righteous red, yellow and green motif. The custom insoles and ‘Lewis Forever’ tongue tag add a personal touch to the shoe, which we have no doubt Lewis would be proud to shred through.
