The minimal Air Max 1 take wears colours symbolising various stanzas of Lopez’s life, and the important women who have shaped it.
‘The pink represents the women who raised me. The red and green are a symbol of my Mexican heritage, and the gold accent on the back of the shoe represents the “Coat of Arms” in the Salvadorian flag,’ says Lopez.
‘My mom raised me as a single mother and was always working long hours to make sure we had a roof over our head and, when she couldn’t even afford groceries, my aunts were always there to help. They always made sure I got to school on time, finished my homework, and made sure I was happy. During those times I felt down and like giving up they were there to help encourage me through their love and positivity. This shoe is for all these women who played a significant role in my life and helped mould me into the person I am today.’
The Nike Air Max 1 ‘Por La Familia’ by Mark Lopez releases on November 1, and will be available until November 10.
