Regarded as a footwear pioneer, ASICS founder Kihachiro Onitsuka would’ve celebrated his 100th birthday this month. In his honour, the brand is releasing a limited edition sunflower-inspired collection, which includes a vibrant GEL-Mai.
Doused in bright yellow, the commemorative GEL-Mai is designed to represent Onitsuka’s upbeat personality and his love for Vincent van Gogh’s artwork.
‘Much like sunflowers, he always headed toward the light and this was reflected in his personality and management style,’ says Motoi Oyama, ASICS CEO.
Launching on May 29 (Onitsuka’s birthday), $10 USD from each product from the collection sold will go to the Right to Play organisation, which grants children in Lebanon sports scholarships. Keep an eye on ASICS retailers and the official website.
