The Air Rift was retroed last year via a string of JD Sports exclusive releases and as part of the 'Genealogy Pack', whetting the appetite of Nike nerds across the globe with a taste for the weirder silhouettes wearing the Swoosh. For 2015, Nike has finally brought the unique running shoe back as part of its huge Spring/Summer roll out, given the Air Rift the reintroduction it deserves via a series of four colourways. Inspired by the barefoot runners of Kenya's Great Rift Valley, the 1996 sneaker was Nike's first exploration into footwear with natural motion as the central concept, an ongoing focus for the brand that eventually led to the development of key Nike innovations such as Free sole technology. With all the hype surrounding odd looking, technical silhouettes, 2015 is the perfect climate for the original ninja sneaker (no disrespect to the Y-3 Qasa, the current king of the ninja footwear movement) to return, sporting the OG Kenyan flag colourway amongst a few others, most notably the all-white model that will no doubt start popping up on fashionista Pintrests and Tumblrs very shortly.
The first release will drop on April 27th, with a following release with two additional colourways coming May 15th. Hopefully we'll see these receive a wider release, we want to see these everywhere!
