Nike’s third-generation bubble-bashing entry in the Tuned Air series, the Air Max Plus 3, is returning in its OG ‘Hyper Blue’ livery at Foot Locker. The early-2000s runner has enjoyed cult status as an underground favourite for Air-heads worldwide, but its latest retro will renew peak fervour from both hardened veterans and newcomer fans.
Building on the foundations set by its 1998 forefather, the Air Max Plus 3 exposes more of the Tuned Air unit in the heel for increased shock absorption. The telltale ‘fingers’ across the upper have been repositioned for maximum flexibility and structure, aided further by the aggressively angled heel counter. Like other notable Air Max silhouettes from the era, the gradient treatment to the mesh vamp is distinctly Nike.
The OG ‘Hyper Blue’ Air Max Plus 3 is set to land at Foot Locker shelves and online come November 8. That’s not all — the ‘Tune The Tuned’ contest is an opportunity to dream up colourways that could one day become a reality, with budding sneaker designers going into the running to win a Foot Locker gift card each week for four weeks.
