The Jordan 9 is best known as the first model His Airness never wore: its 1994 release came right after MJ's sudden retirement in the season prior. Jordan Brand had to then forge a reputation for themselves that didn't rely on the GOAT's rep. Tinker Hatfield has said that the Jordan 9 marked the beginning of the 'the globalization of the Air Jordan brand name.' The 9 also takes some design cues from baseball cleats, reminding us of Jordan's brief career in minor-league baseball.
In tribute to their first shoe without MJ, Jordan Brand have a slew of Jordan 9 releases lined up for 2018. Thanks to leaked images from zSneakerHeadz, we've been given a preview of the 'Bred' colourway, which comes decked in a mix of black and patent leather with splashes of University Red throughout.
We can also see the shoe's OG release date – 1994 – imprinted on the soles.
