A testament to Scandinavian style and simplicity, the Index is the debut sneaker from Swedish label 3-3-20. With re-interpretation at the core of the brand’s design philosophy, the skate-inspired low-top epitomises form and function, dressed in premium materials for a luxe yet laid-back aesthetic.
Dropping the three colourways, the Index boasts a lush Italian suede upper, with full cow-leather lining and rubber outsole providing further opulent touches. Handmade in Portugal, pairs come with two sets of cotton laces and a special dust bag.
Set for market entry in early 2019, 3-3-20 is the brainchild of long-time skateboarder and designer Sami Tolppi. Looking to fill a void in the skate and street footwear scene, Tolppi says the brand looks to bring a more honest and open approach, steering away from suits and venture capitalists.
‘Many people ask if it’s a skate shoe and I usually say, “it can be if you want, might be some expensive ollies though”,’ says Tolppi, regarding the Index. ‘That’s kind of the core of our design philosophy, to create some products that people can re-appropriate or re-imagine to suit their own needs, just the same way we did with the adidas Campus or PUMA Clyde back in the day. Value is in the eye of the beholder, so to speak.’
The 3-3-20 Index in black is available now from the brand’s official webstore for 2000 Kr. (approximately $220 USD), with the white and purple colourways set for release in February 2019.
