Five years ago, putting satin on the Air Jordan 1 would have been unthinkable. Fortunately since then, the sneaker material playbook has been completely rewritten, and the AJ1 is very much a casual sneaker these days.
While previous satin editions have been a bit more adventurous with colour, this ‘Black Satin’ take is safe and understated. It’s not to say this is boring: there are subtle details like contrasting leather panels and deep ‘Gym Red’ accents through the laces and Wings logo.
The fact that they’re the OG high cut is appealing too, given public consensus of mids is still one of mild disgust. Dropping at Nike retailers on January 18.
