UPDATE: New Orlean's 2017 Mardi Gras is over. The costumes have been packed away for another year, but you can keep the spirit of the event alive by wearing this Sneaker Politics x adidas colab. If you missed the Gazelle's first drop, its Primeknit build and gum sole finish will be returning to stores like Overkill on March 4.
February is a crazy time down in New Orleans. Mardi Gras fever has descended upon the city for another year, bringing with it a vibrant carnival of celebration to mark the beginning of Lent. However, amongst the thick of the festivities, the crew at Sneaker Politics have chosen to open their third location – right in the heart of The Big Easy. To commemorate this wild month, adidas Consortium have collaborated with the Louisana-based boutique chain to produce a Mardi Gras-inspired take on the classic Gazelle.
Symbolic of the King Cake, the shoe's cream-coloured Primeknit upper is interwoven with the festival's official colours of green, gold and purple, while a gum sole is affixed to the bottom as a nod to the dough of the cake's brioche. Gold accents, dual-branding and multicolour laces with 'Mardi Gras' lace tips make this one special release that is equal parts clean and crazy.
The Sneaker Politics x adidas Consortium Gazelle PK will be available February 18, exclusively through Sneaker Politics' New Orleans, Lafayette and Baton Rouge locations, as well as through their online store. A limited global release will follow on March 4, through adidas Consortium stockists.
