Japan’s sacai have put their own twisted spin on Nike’s hybrid mania, smashing together unlikely silhouettes for an experimental colab collection. Two versions of two new mash-ups hit the catwalk during sacai’s spring 2019 show. The low version chops up Nike’s Waffle Daybreak and LDV, making for a slim runner with an exaggerated heel, while a high-top unites the Blazer and Dunk.
The combos themselves aren’t exactly noteworthy, more sacai’s decision to swerve on harmony. The designs don’t try to meet seamlessly, elements from both are jammed in the same space to vie for attention. This means double tongues, double laces, and double branding — basically the sneaker version of the Old El Paso’s 'por que no los dos' meme.
Reports slate the colab to land next January, though in disappointingly low quantities.
