UPDATE: Fans of the reinvented TopStar can cop the sneaker today!
Product of New York was launched at the start of the year to revitalise Pony's rich heritage, a lifestyle branch within the brand responsible for refreshing Pony's iconic footwear for a fashion forward audience with an affinity for vintage sportswear. The label has already been responsible for Pony's collaborations with sneaker giant Ronnie Fieg and hometown fashion house DKNY with their 1980's M series basketball offerings, and now they have turned their attention to the 1975 TopStar for a very special release paying tribute to the New York Mets. A modernised take on the all-purpose sneaker, both low and high top silhouettes in the collection is constructed with premium glove leather upper and breathable canvas lining with gold metal hardware branding that represents the NY Mets' championship season in 1986. The most impressive detail on these two TopStars is the hand woven leather Chevron, referencing the look of the '86 Mets baseball stitch logo. A sign of things to come for Pony, old and new fans will be interested to see how this new direction for the brand will roll out over the course of this year.
Limited to only 300 pairs of each style available exclusively on the Product of New York website, both shoes will be for sale on the 11th of April and will not last long. Don't sleep!
