Nike’s Be True 2018 collection looks to celebrate the colours and symbols that have come to proudly symbolise the beauty and diversity of the LGBTQ community. Featuring an Air Max 270, VaporMax Plus, Zoom Fly SP and Epic React Flyknit, each model is decorated with lavender and pink triangle motifs.
Pops of lavender are detailed across all four of the silhouettes, with the 270, VaporMax Plus and Epic React also receiving of purple shades. The combination creates a unique ‘pulse’ tonal aesthetic.
Lavender, a gender-symbolic combination of light blue and light pink, is one of the oldest symbolic references in LGBTQ culture, while the triangle came to prominence in the 70s thanks to gay rights activists and was later adopted by the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power (ACT UP) in the 80s.
The Nike Be True 2018 sneaker collection and matching apparel drops June 6 at Nike.com and select retailers.
