Given that Nike’s Air Max day is mere weeks away, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the big announcements from Beaverton would be exclusively Air Max – but that's not the case. The next generation of Nike’s running technology has landed, the Zoom Vaporfly Elite, and it’s about to redefine speed.
At first glance it’s like nothing we’ve seen so far, with a giant Swoosh overlapping both the upper and the flared ZoomX midsole. Traditioanlly, distance-running shoes are designed to be lightweight and close to the ground. The new ZoomX sole measures a full 21mm at the forefoot, elevating the foot for greater energy return. The shoe is born out of Nike’s Breaking2 program and has been specifically engineered to help a handful of athletes break the two-hour marathon, each one fine tuned to the precise running style of the individual.
Unfortunately, at this point, the new design isn’t being made available to the public. Nevertheless, the development of the cutting edge Zoom Vaporfly Elite is being translated into Nike’s newest athletic silhouettes, with a series of ZoomX based models on the way.
