This year's month of Max just keeps getting bigger! Between the OG retros, debut of the Air VaporMax and the cavalcade of collaborations that have emerged, we figured Nike had just about exhausted their pressure-packed celebrations for the year – but that couldn't be further from the truth. Nike have just revealed the 'Vote Forward' campaign, selecting 12 creatives from around the world – dubbed 'RevolutionAirs' – to reach deep into the Air Max gene pool and produce their own unique Max in collaboration with the Nike design team.
The first three designs – originating from the good ol' US of A – have been revealed and already the diversity in design is apparent. Sean Wotherspoon, co-owner of LA boutique Round Two, has fused the Air Max 1 and Air Max 97 for his design, rendered in a colourful palette inspired by his love of vintage Nike caps.
Multimedia artist Kyle Ng, co-founder of Brain Dead, has taken the modern Air Max 1 Ultra Flyknit and treated it to a seemingly contrasting earthy colour scheme with a touch of DIY care of hand-painted spots.
New York-based DJ Venus X looks to be in the running for tallest sneaker ever with her contribution – a fusion of the Air Max 97 and Air VaporMax featuring a zip-away vinyl sock. With a hazardous colourway in nod to the OG Air Max Plus and 'DEF CON ONE' in bold letters from knee to ankle, it's the definition of eye-catching.
In a similar vein to last year's Air Max Day vote, which brought about the return of the atmos Air Max 1 'Elephant', Nike is calling upon sneakerheads to vote for their favourite design with the promise that the winning entry will be released in 2018. Be sure to check out all 12 RevolutionAir designs before casting your vote!
Voting kicks off March 17 through Nike.com and you'll have until March 25 to get your entry in. The winner will be announced on March 26.
