Anything inspired by Berlin is a winner in our book (or at least this Berlin-loving writer’s book). So yes, even if the specific source of inspiration behind this is a type of prefab concrete – Plattenbau; literally ‘plate building’ created and manufactured in huge volumes in response to Berlin’s 1960s housing crisis, we’re still all about it.

Drawing from the simple and fuss-free Plattenbau, ’s latest Dunk is characterised by its tonal grey colourway and laser-cut siped uppers. Nike have nailed the dreary, stoic, socialist aesthetic of GDR times, but in a way you really want to wear. Unfortunately, only 240 lucky ducks will get the chance to do so. Maybe that’s why the lace tips bear the words traum and tristesse – dream and sadness? (Actually, it's more of poetic riff on life in plattenbauten behind the Wall.) On the left quarter, a gold embroidered ‘D85’ shouts out the Dunk’s debut; on the right, ‘D17’ marks the Plattenbau Dunk’s birth year.

A reason shouldn’t be needed to run away to Berlin, but if you reeeeally need one, this should work: the 'Plattenbau' Dunk will be available exclusively at Overkill Berlin, and dropping on December 15.
