We’ve already given you sneak peeks at the upcoming Nike EXP-X14, but now we’ve got the official intel from Beaverton.
It’s been confirmed that the shoe’s translucent upper is a modern take on the Nike Zoom Drive from the late-90s, while the exposed TPU plate heel harks back to the Zoom VaporFly 4% shoes worn by Breaking2 athletes. There’s also ‘N3546’ printed on the medial side, a nod to Steve Prefontaine’s fastest mile (3 minutes and 54.6 seconds) and Nike’s rich history in running.
As far the quirky name goes, the ‘EXP’ is shorthand for ‘experiment,’ representing the design team’s goal of adapting performance running features into a lifestyle shoe, while the ‘X14’ refers to the original internal codename for Nike React technology used in the shoe’s midsole.
The Nike EXP-X14 will be available from June 28 via SNEAKRS in Europe, and from July 5 on SNKRS in North America. Global retailers and Nike.com will also receive pairs on July 5.
