Cavs fans the world over were shocked to see their beloved King James lace up in Golden State colours in Tuesday's game against the Pistons, but the real story behind this LeBron 15 PE is far from traitorous and much closer to nostalgic.
The special make-up is a tribute to Nike's origins, adopting the colourway of the brand's original Waffle Trainer (an early silhouette whose revolutionary waffle sole thrust the Swoosh into the spotlight).
The make-up is the first in a series of player exclusives called the LeBron Watch program. Each will pay tribute to the iconic athletes and shoes that influenced LeBron's career. Only the 'Waffle' design has been revealed so far, but a teaser animation hints at designs inspired by the Air Max 95, ACG and Ken Griffey among other sources.
Ordinarily Player Exclusives are just that – exclusively for players. Fortunately, Nike have realised that these designs are too good to keep from the public so they are making five of the designs available through the Nike SNKRS app 'as soon as he steps on the floor wearing them.'
Be sure to watch each Cavs game closely from here on in. If the designs are as good as the Nike LeBron 15 PE 'Waffle' then you don't want to miss out.
