It's a little known fact that Kobe Bryant's favourite sport isn't basketball at all – that honour goes to soccer, according to the Black Mamba himself. The 8th Wonder of the World credits the low-cut design of soccer boots as the inspiration for his own signature line of shoes – stating that if a low-cut shoe is good enough for the pitch then it's good enough for the court. Just as the student becomes the master, Bryant made the jump to a high-cut design with the Kobe 9 and Nike's soccer division soon followed with the Mercurial Superfly. Recognising that they had created a killer design in the Superfly, Nike decided to switch out the studs and hit the boot with a Free sole and Flyknit upper to create a cushy pair of trainers for off the pitch. The latest colourway of the Free Mercurial Superfly takes on a Yankees-esque colour palette with that light grey and deep navy blue. If you're a fan of The Beautiful Game then keep an eye out – these will be hitting select Nike Sportswear accounts soon.
