UPDATE: Nike are adding to track star Kenny Moore's legacy with a collection of Cortez made to his exact specifications releasing this weekend. Three colourways are up for grabs, including a rare version that bear's Moore's name instead of the Swoosh. Look out for them at Nike accounts like Up There on August 25.
The Nike Cortez's popularity has surged in the past twelve months, riding a wave of releases that showcased how versatile the iconic running silhouette remains after all these years. The latest collection pays tribute to Kenny Moore, the Oregon track star who inspired Bill Bowerman to improve the Tiger TG-22 (the design that Blue Ribbon Sports sold at the time) to better suit long-distance runners. The updated design featured more foam cushioning and arch support, and the prototype that Moore helped refine eventually became the Tiger Cortez, now famously known as the Nike Cortez.
Honouring Kenny's involvement in the Cortez story, Nike's new collection includes three fresh colorways in OG-inspired nylon and suede constructions, as well as a white leather edition with a handwritten 'MOORE' printed on the side.
The Nike Cortez Kenny Moore Collection will be available soon from select Nike Sportswear retailers worldwide – stay tuned for updates.
