Dubbed the 'Susan', the upcoming drop is a collaboration between Nike and LAIKA as a nod to the new film Missing Link. The kicks are a clear nod to the film's protagonist, Mr. Link, and see Tinker Hatfield and former animator Michael Berger taking cues from Link's plaid suit, which was designed by LAIKA's Deborah Cook. As for the 'Susan' moniker, Nike explain that Link playfully introduces himself as Susan in an effort to disguise his true identity.
'The Air Max 1 has always been a really uplifting, happy design. When I saw the film, I immediately felt Mr. Link was instantly lovable — he's happy-go-lucky, the type to stop and smell the flowers,' explains Hatfield. 'So, he's got a certain chill that for me made sense with the silhouette.'
The 'Susan' will be the first-ever LAIKA x Nike colab to release commercially, and is set to drop on April 9, just a few days ahead of the film's theatrical release on April 12.
