The  has been the linchpin of New Balance’s heritage lifestyle category for decades, a fan-favourite that continues to represent the brand’s universal appeal across generations of sneakerheads. As the company moves in step with the industry’s ever-changing landscape, the 574 continues to evolve. This time around, New Balance has reimagined the 80s trail runner with updated tooling and a modern design, elevating the 1988 design to meet the needs of today’s comfort-demanding NB fans. First introduced in June as a , the ‘574 Sport’ – better known as the  – is a brand new lifestyle silhouette that celebrates the model’s performance roots.

To further connect the new model with its roots, the first 574S collection made available to the public will comprise two colourways inspired by NB’s 90s shoebox design. Featuring technical blueprints of runners and the ‘more intelligent approach to building shoes‘ tagline that became synonymous with New Balance over the period, the box design evokes that comforting sense of sneaker nostalgia, especially for runners who embraced NB’s design ethos back in athletic footwear design’s nascent stages.

The shoe will debut in two colourways inspired by the original shoebox’s palette. Suede bases on each are a nod to the shoe’s heritage, while perforated mesh and breathable fabrics bridge the gap to 2017. The result is a strong collection that appeals to new and old NB fans, a promising debut that affirms the model’s ability to carry the 574 torch as the company charges forward.

The New Balance 574S ’90s Box’ pack will be available from select New Balance stockists and  online from July 15.
