The sneaker scientists at New Balance are yet to reveal what the ‘H’ stands for, but our research points towards ‘Hypothesis’. That said, in order to adapt the 997 to palates of the modern sneaker fiend, they’ve taken out the guesswork. Upgrades have been made to the OG’s C-CAP/ENCAP-fused cushioning, with the addition of GCEVA and a modernised outsole profile making for an even lighter, more agile feel. Meanwhile, bright neon accents nod to the brand’s running heritage, with a vibrant Energy Red ‘N’ logo a fitting focal point against a more traditional Magnet grey base.
We know ‘Made in USA’ represents New Balance’s cream of the crop, but the 997H looks to tap into new niche altogether, appealing to everyone from the die-hards to the NB newbies.
This ‘hypothesis’ needs testing, so be sure to head into all leading New Balance retailers on February 2 to cop this 997H, alongside three more stunning colourways.
