A solar eclipse takes place when our view of the sun is blocked by a new moon. The effect can look spectacular, and New Balance has been taking note, using the moment as the muse for a new collection of footwear. The light and dark contrast that defines an eclipse inspires the colourways and use of reflective tech on these new iterations of the Fresh Foam Boracay, Fresh Foam Zante, and 890v5 models.
The Fresh Foam Boracay's calling card is a plush sole unit with deep hexagonal cell impressions on the surface. Its little brother, the Fresh Foam Zante also bares a honeycomb-esque midsole exterior, but offers runners a slightly more rigid sole feel, enabling a smooth ride with a fast stride. Finishing off the trio is the 890v5, which is specialised for runners putting in some serious kilometers, meaning that you guys who plan on wearing it casually on the street will enjoy a featherweight, easy-breathing pair of everyday sneaks.
All three models share low-cut profiles, plus reflective-speckled laces and reflective taping on the heel, 'N' logo and toe box. These women's renditions are clad in burning sun orange outsoles and accents, to provide some welcome colour pop.
The New Balance Solar Eclipse Pack is arriving in select New Balance retailers, including Hype DC, in the coming days.
