New Balance has been quietly updating some of their classic models with new technology such as ABZORB, REVlite and Fresh Foam taken from their current line-up of performance trainers. While NB is no stranger to modernising their archive, this time they have taken the route Nike and adidas Originals have firmly established with creating a brand new silhouette that incorporates vintage DNA with contemporary construction and design. The ML2016 is the latest offering birthed from New Balance's Tokyo Design Studio, taking aspects from the 1500, 998, 996 and other retros and creating a new model that is constructed with a single seamless panel across the midfoot and toe sections above an ABZORB sole unit. On top of everything, the unmistakable New Balance 'N' that usually sits boldly on the side is replaced with with a perforated 'N' that gives that shoe that streamlined aesthetic. While we have only caught glimpses of a few introductory colourways including these two suede and leather versions, be prepared for the ML2016 to be rolled out with a slew of variants when it arrives at NB stockists on January 1st in the new year.
