Love it or hate it, the chunky trainer trend is getting chunkier by the day! China's Li-Ning is the latest brand to jump on board, debuting their own bulky behemoth over the weekend during New York Fashion Week. Li-Ning describe the new sneaker design, dubbed the Butterfly 2018, as a modern reworking of a model originally worn by Chinese athletes during the Sydney 2000 Summer Olympics.
Despite its heritage roots, it's hard to overlook some very obvious influence from a certain Mr Kanye West. Two variations of the Butterfly 2018 were shoe, bearing striking resemblance to the Yeezy Wave Runner 700 and Yeezy 500 respectively. There's even a bit of 350 v2 similarity to be found! Still, we can't hate on that mad sunset gradient 700 wannabe. It's like the Wave Runner and our beloved Air Max Plus 'Tiger' combined. Bellissimo!
Li-Ning are yet to announce release details for the Butterfly 2018. We'll keep you posted!
