Back in April, Nike kicked off LeBron James’s annual playoff run with an all-black ‘Dark 23’ edition of the LeBron Soldier 12 SFG. A nod to the King’s usual absence from social media during the NBA postseason, the shoe was intended to honour ‘the clarity and focus required of champions’. LeBron may have come up short in his pursuit of another title, but no matter: the Swoosh is revisiting the look with another blacked-out take on the silhouette — one that undoubtedly pays homage to James’ new Los Angeles stomping ground.
Here, the latest Soldier model retains its usual BattleKnit construction, but ditches the nubuck toe of the ‘Dark 23’. In its place? Leather embossed with reptilian scales, perhaps a nod to the 'Black Mamba', Kobe Bryant. Whether intentional or not, the upcoming drop will go perfectly with the Lakers’ black ‘City Edition’ uniforms that debuted last season.
Expect the LeBron Soldier 12 SFG ‘Triple Black’ to hit shelves at select Nike Basketball accounts on August 11.
