Jordan Brand has acknowledged a fan roundhouse kicking his cancer diagnosis into submission by treating him to some special Jays. This Air Jordan 1 ‘Millad’ PE is so named for Millad Mesriani, who dove into sneaker culture as a respite from cancer’s effects.
The Jumpman has recognised his fandom and strength with a design that incorporates Sword hangtags — a nod to Millad seeing the Jays as a ‘symbol of his fight’. Read more from Millad below.
View this post on InstagramIdk where to start. About 2 years ago, I was diagnosed with a cancer that had never been seen before. Throughout all the physical and emotional suffering, the last thing I wanted was for strangers to feel bad for me just by looking at me. Instead of hiding my bald head under a beanie, I embraced it. I found confidence through my sense of style. As long as I had my new Jordan’s on, everything would be okay. Sneakers and fashion became a way for me to escape the reality of cancer. Now fast forward a few years, I have my own pair of Air Jordan 1s that have never been seen before... This is much more than just a sneaker. To me, this is a symbol of my fight. These sneakers are the literal light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you so much to everyone at Jordan brand for making this happen. Designing this Air Jordan 1 with the NRG team in Beaverton was by far the best experience of my life. You guys have treated me like family and I can’t thank you guys enough. The shoe turned out greater than I ever imagined. I am so grateful for everyone at Make-A-Wish foundation for making any of this possible. Thanks for making my dream and thousands of other dreams come true every year 💙
