‘Ball de diables’ is a traditional form of medieval street theatre that originated almost 1000 years ago. When Franco’s dictatorship fell with his death in 1975, the Catalan tradition was reborn with ferocious new energy after decades of suppression, birthing its modern form known as Correfocs – fire runs.
These days, in the lead up to Barcelona's La Mercè Festival in late September, people take to the streets dressed as devils to let off fireworks and beat drums. This modern Correfocs celebration is the inspiration behind the latest collaboration between LimitEDitions and Diadora.
