Does Vetements' New InstaPump Fury Colab Prove Emojis are Still Cool?
When emojis were rolled out on the iPhone keyboard back in 2011, they revolutionised communication. But – thanks to the overuse of the eggplant emoji (and the unsolicited surprises that generally accompany it) and the embarrassing flop that was The Emoji Movie – some suggested the humble emoji was on its way out.
However, have pumped new life into the ideogram. In their latest colab with , the brand added two emojis to the . The pumps are adorned with the 'facing throwing a kiss' and the 'face with rolling eyes' emojis (as they're termed in official Unicode parlance). If we read these emojis from left to right, it's unclear what message Vetements is trying to send here: are they frustrated with romance, are they tired of kisses?
In any case, thanks to that magic spell Vetements has cast over the streetwear community, you can be sure these smileys will be popping up in every hypebeast's texts from now on. The emojis take centre stage on the InstaPump Fury, with the white upper stamped with the Vetements logo fading into the background.
