Derek Jeter's 2014 'RE2PECT' ad campaign with has crawled out of the YouTube archives and made its way onto the . The commercial celebrated Jeter's final career season with the Yankees, and featured everyone from Jay-Z to Michael Jordan tipping their NY caps to salute the baseball pro.
Now the iconography of the 'RE2PECT' ad has inspired Jeter's new AJ1. It's interesting that #2 didn't take on the Jordan 2 but, then again, this classic silhouette looks pretty smooth thanks to Derek's design direction.
Early release images provided by offer a closeup inspection. Perhaps paying tribute to the #2 legend, the shoe sports two distinctive looks. Under certain lighting, you'd be fooled into thinking this was a simple black and white take on the trusty b-ball model. But, as bright light shines onto Jeter's Jays, they read like a motivational poster. Words like 'discipline', 'fearlessness' and 'focus' are hiding in the nubuck upper.
