As the middle child of the Big Baller Brand bunch, LiAngelo Ball was bound to get his own BBB signature shoe eventually. His father LaVar is one of the most masterful media manipulators we've seen in a while. So obviously the announcement of Gelo's signature comes right as the young guard's name is splashed all over the news cycle.
In the past month or so, LiAngelo's been busted for shoplifting Louis Vuitton sunglasses in China, caught at the centre of a bizarre Twitter feud with Trump, and most recently, he was pulled out of UCLA's basketball program by his father. With LiAngelo's name on everyone's radar, it's a smart strategy to publicise the impending release of the BBB Gelo 3.
ESPN first broke the news of the upcoming Gelo 3 release, noting that the former UCLA player is now no longer bound by the NCAA protocols that prevent college players from netting commercial shoe deals. Now that LiAngelo will be training independently under LaVar's watchful eye, he'll finally be able to join his family's infamous footwear empire.
We know nothing else about the Gelo 3 at this stage, but this college dropout is certainly focused on making money moves. LiAngelo lacks the on-court prowess that thrust Lonzo into the spotlight, so it'll be interesting to see how this Gelo 3 is marketed. Perhaps LiAngelo's bad boy behaviour will help BBB bounce back as Laker Lonzo struggles to score in the NBA.
We'll be sure to keep you updated as further news of the Gelo 3 release rolls our way.
