First things first: Kanye did not invent the Powerphase! The model has been kicking around at the Three Stripes for close to three decades – it just took a certain Mr West to bring it to the attention of hype-fuelled sneaker culture. However, according to Yeezy Mafia, adidas are planning to introduce a 'generic' version of Kanye's Powerphase to market in June as part of their fall/winter 2018 lineup.
Dubbed the 'Rascal', the new model features a similar silhouette to the retro-styled trainer, particularly its sidewall branding, although the panelling materials and even the sole unit are noticeably different when placed side by side. The Rascal does away with the Powerphase's Three Stripe perforation and instead opts for dual red and blue striping more in line with FILA's Original Fitness than any adidas release.
So why is this upcoming release supposedly riding Kanye's coat-tails? One look at the debut colourways will tell you all you need to know. In addition to a traditional white colourway, adidas will also serve up the new silhouette in 'Semi Frozen Yellow.'
No official details for the adidas Rascal have been announced, but Yeezy Mafia suggest they'll hit stores in June.
