Since word got out that Nike were reviving their ultra-exclusive PlayStation Air Force 1, we’ve been wondering if they would faithfully recreate the original or go in an entirely new direction. Well, after the shoe was unveiled last weekend, we have confirmation: the final product is somewhere in between.
The 2018 edition keeps the black and blue scheme of the OG but simplifies the design. They nod to the two ’06 versions (one came with smooth leather, another patent) with a smooth upper capped with shiny leather at the heel. Overt branding is kept to the heel tabs, which carry the ‘PS’ logo and reference the controller’s iconic four buttons; the same four shapes are used as subtle backdrops for the translucent Swoosh and outsole.
A more understated take on the theme to be sure, but you can’t deny they win in the wearability stakes.
These are available now through Nike Early Access, so jump over to NDC to see if you’re one of the lucky ones.
