Nike have collaborated with London-based collective The Basement to reinterpret the Dunk – by youths, for youths.
Designed by 18-year-old member Daniel Pacitti, the end result is a simple colourway with a complex construction. An insane mash-up of nine materials, the sneaker reflects the diversity within the group of young creatives. 'When designing the shoe, we made each panel a different material to represent the diversity within our community. When they come together, they form something more beautiful and more powerful,' Pacitti states.
The full breakdown is as follows:
- 14OZ canvas
- Mesh lining
- Double twill canvas
- Heavyweight denim
- Flat leather
- Tumbled leather
- 3M reflective
In addition to requisite colab branding, the Dunk features a mini Swoosh at the toe and appears to have been cut down the middle and rejoined – not unlike the Yeezy BOOST 350. Keeping the community vibes flowing, proceeds from sales will go to Youth Futures, an organisation that provides mentorship for London youths.
The Nike Dunk Low BSMNT will be available only through London's The Basement x Nike pop-up on July 29. The exact address will be announced on the morning of the 29th through The Basement's social channels.
