UPDATE: On- foot pictures of Alumni x Brooks' 'The Great Mistake' Regent have surfaced, allowing for a closer look at their nuanced design. It's easier to see the slight differences, and similarities, from left to right foot– representative of the relationship between Brooklyn and New York.
In 1898 Brooklyn, and surrounding counties, teamed up with Manhattan to create the one and only New York City. At the time, the people of Brooklyn were worried that the merger would wipe out their independence and civic identity, and as a result it was colloquially termed ‘The Great Mistake’.
This Alumni x Brooks Regent colab pays tribute to the modern relationship between the two boroughs, their shared history and ongoing harmony. The Brooklyn-based retailer has decked out the Regent in the muted, earthy tones that were popular during the late 19th century – using a combination of canvas, leather and suede. The left and right shoes have been laid out with slightly different colour blocking and materials, in acknowledgement of the similarities – and differences – that tie the two together. The dual branded shoes even have special insoles, each with a map of either of the respective neighbourhoods as they were in the 1890s.
The Alumni x Brook s Regent ‘The Great Mistake’ will be available from Alumni and select stockists worldwide from March 4.
