Time and time again, the adidas Munchen SPZL has proven to be one of the most popular silhouettes in the SPEZIAL line-up. For SPEZIAL’s FW18 collection, Gary Aspden and his talented team of Trefoil technicians have set their sights on the Munchen’s lesser-known counterpart: the Munchen Super.
Diving deep into the archives, the Munchen Super SPZL makes its debut in a never-before-released colourway that draws inspiration from two obscure sources that would likely leave even lifelong adidas devotees stumped. The vibrant lime green suede upper of this SPEZIAL release is derived both from an exclusive iteration of the Munchen Super made for the 1972 German Olympic team, as well as a grail-worthy 80s Gazelle colourway that has long eluded the clutches of even Gary Aspden himself.
This eye-catching colourway is paired seductively with crisp white accents and glorious gum outsoles. Traditional adidas branding on the tongue matches a bold blue hit in the sole, the second time a coloured herringbone plug has ever been used on the model. True to the graduation in foxing depth found on early Munchen Super releases, this SPZL version features foxing that varies from 18mm to 30mm. An added heel guard and extra set of laces beautifully finish off this latest addition to the SPEZIAL family.
This Munchen Super SPZL is impossible to ignore and has already attracted one huge fan in adidas diehard Liam Gallagher who has described them as possibly his favourite SPEZIAL release to date!
Drop 1 of the adidas SPEZIAL ‘Acid Winter’ FW18 Collection is slated for release on September 7 through select top-tier adidas stockists.
