As it nears its 50th anniversary, the rubber shelltoe of the adidas Superstar still remains one of the most distinctive design elements in the sneaker world. As iconic as the sneaker itself, the word 'Shelltoe' has been adopted to define not only the durable toe-cap but as a nickname for the model itself.
While Superstars continue to roll off the production line, little changed from their original 1969 form, adidas have recently begun to experiment with new materials in place of the tried and tested rubber. Having brought us a duo of 'Metal Toe' Superstars in 2016, the Three Stripes have now turned their attention to a more flexible substitute – cork. The Superstar 80s 'Cork Pack' delivers two tonal suede make-ups of the classic silhouette – one black and one beige – each fitted with a toe-cap made of the natural bark-based material. Crisp white sole units for contrast complete this exquisite Superstar duo.
The adidas Superstar 80s 'Cork Pack' is available now from adidas Originals stockists globally, including SNKRS.
