adidas hosted a major retrospective under the SPEZIAL banner last year, showcasing over 800 pairs of shoes supplied by collectors in Hoxton, London. Curated by Gary Aspden and Mike Chetcuti, SPEZIAL was such a nuts-out success, they’ve buttered up for round two in Manchester as part of Design Week in October. Upping the ante, they’ve also assembled an adidas Originals x SPEZIAL capsule collection of premium leisurewear and trainers that promises to return the Three Stripes to its northern UK heartland.
Here’s the first SPEZIAL sneak peek. The Topanga was inspired by a pair of vintage Californias in Nigel Lawson’s collection. The revised upper produces a relatively short toe profile which distinguishes the silhouette from many other reissues from the era. Chestnut suede is offset by tonal nubuck stripes, while charcoal grey foxing and a gum sole complete the resurrection of this forgotten gem.
The full SPEZIAL story is revealed in a monster 30 page feature in Issue 31 of Sneaker Freaker. We’ll have more exclusive SPEZIAL news so check back for your daily updates.
